Every wall has its quirks. Drywall is the easiest to work with, but what about plaster walls in older homes? Or brick fireplaces? Or solid concrete basements? If you’re trying to mount a TV or soundbar, you’re probably asking if this is actually going to work.
Here to tell you... Yes, it works. You can mount on plaster, brick, or concrete — you just need the right approach.
Plaster walls are common in homes built before the 1960s, and while they’re durable, they’re also tricky. If you’ve ever tried to hang something heavy on plaster with regular screws, you know the frustration. Cracking, crumbling, and giant holes are all too common.
The key is anchoring the right way. it's hard to determine whether your specific wall will perform the same way. Plaster wall is a lot more brittle and prone to cracking, so hammering nails into the plaster may or may not have an adverse effect. We always recommend using the screws and anchors for plaster walls or going directly into a stud.
On the bright side though, because HangSmart is SO LIGHT, and practically weighs nothing, it doesn't add more weight to the TV. If you were to install a traditional rack onto your plaster wall, you would have the weight of the heavy rack, plus the weight of the TV bearing down on the wall. With HangSmart, it eliminates a lot of that weight because the mount itself is so light.
So if you are going to install a TV onto the plaster wall using a traditional rack (either with screws and anchors or into a stud), you may consider opting for HangSmart, where you can still install it the exact same way, only you're getting a sleeker, lighter TV mount that will naturally eliminate a lot of that extra weight added by heavy traditional racks. Plus, if you upgrade your tv and want to re use it, the same mount can be re-used and re installed into any tv up to 100". You don't need to purchase a whole new rack just to fit the size of your tv.
Brick adds character to a room — but it’s not exactly installer-friendly. Traditional TV mounts often require heavy masonry bits, anchors, and a drill that feels like it belongs on a construction site.
HangSmart makes it simpler. Each kit comes with the hardware you need to drill small pilot holes and secure the mount with screws and anchors. The footprint of our mounts is slim, so you’re not left with massive bolts sticking out of your brickwork. The result? A floating TV or soundbar that looks clean without a wall full of holes.
Concrete is the toughest wall type, literally. It can hold almost anything, but most people don’t want to deal with hammer drills and oversized hardware. That’s where HangSmart’s design really helps.
For concrete, just use the supplied screws and anchors instead of nails. The anchors expand inside the hole, locking the mount in place. Because the mounts are compact, you only need a couple of small holes — not a grid of bolts like old-school racks require.
The end result is secure, streamlined, and just as easy to uninstall when you need to.
A customer in Boston mounted a 98-inch TV on plaster walls in a brownstone using HangSmart. He said the hardest part was deciding how high to place it.
Another customer in Texas installed his soundbar onto a brick fireplace. He liked that the screws were minimal and didn’t leave his fireplace looking like Swiss cheese.
In Florida, one customer used the system in a concrete block home. He mounted both a TV and a Smart Device Shelf for his speakers in less than an hour.
Always save your color guide. It makes reinstalling in your next place easier.
Keep the included spacers handy. They help if you need extra clearance for plugs or cables.
If you’re mounting in plaster, drill a pilot hole before inserting the nails — it keeps everything neat.
HangSmart has been tested by multiple independent labs including UL, Intertek, and Product 360. UL certification alone required the mount to withstand 450 lbs of downward force without failure.
That’s the kind of confidence you want when you’re trusting your wall with an 85-inch OLED.
Renters → Avoid stud drilling and oversized holes. Our nails leave pen-tip-sized marks that patch in seconds.
Homeowners → Place your TV wherever you want — not wherever your studs dictate.
This freedom means better aesthetics, centered TVs, and a floating modern look without the bulk of old-school steel racks.
